A New Winery in Cappadocia Along the Banks of the Kızılırmak (Red) River.
Exploring S’Narin: A Boutique Cappadocia Winery to Watch?
Keeping an eye on emerging Turkish vineyards like S’Narin Winery

As someone who has long been immersed in Turkey’s evolving wine scene, I’m always curious when a new boutique winery appears on the radar. Recently, the owner Ms. Senar Sümer Çalışkan of S’Narin Winery, nestled along the Kızılırmak River in the heart of Cappadocia, reached out to me. So needless to say, I was interested in this new winery.
I haven’t yet visited this vineyard, nor have I tasted their wines—but the story, setting, and ambition of this project warrant a closer look. These are my first impressions of S’Narin Vineyard, an introduction for those also interested in the expanding world of Turkey's wineries. So—is S’Narin a hidden gem in the making? Or is it still too early to tell?
S’Narin Winery in Cappadocia: First Impressions Matter
When I first heard of S’Narin, the combination of location and concept stood out. Cappadocia is already known for its surreal landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and long storied local grape varieties (like Emir), but wine tourism in Cappadocia is only now gaining the spotlight it deserves. Could S’Narin Winery help push this forward?

The winery is apparently set right on the banks of the Kızılırmak River—a unique choice in Avanos rather than Ürgüp or Uçhisar. That’s intriguing. While I understand they have 3 vineyards Ürgüp Sofular where they have an Emir Vineyard, Ortahisar for their Kalecik Karası Vineyard and Avanos for their Öküzgözü Vineyard I’d look forward to visiting and finding out more.
Wine Tour Cappadocia: A New Player in the Scene
As wine tourism slowly matures in the region, Wine Tour Cappadocia options are growing more diverse. S’Narin Winery presents itself not just as a winery, but as a full experience center—tastings, pairings, grape harvest events, even art. It’s a bold offering for a new winery.

Their stated annual production is just 7,000 bottles—a classic boutique scale. This suggests a hands-on, quality-focused operation. But what’s the viticultural philosophy? Organic? Sustainable? The website mention “good agricultural practices,” but I’d be curious to know what that actually means in their context. Cover crops? Dry farming? Natural ferments? Also, how does S’Narin express “boutique”? Is it just size, or does it signal a commitment to artisanal methods?
Wine Tasting at S’Narin: What Can Visitors Expect?
According to their website, S’Narin Winery offers tastings not just as wine flights, but as immersive storytelling experiences. I love this idea. Turkish wines often lack context for international visitors—there’s a need to explain varieties like Emir, Kalecik Karası, or Öküzgözü in engaging ways.
But again, I wonder: How deep do they go with this storytelling? Are the hosts trained in oenology? Is there an educational component, or is the vibe more casual and lifestyle-driven?
There’s mention of pairing wines with local dishes like tandoor meats and stuffed vine leaves. This is a promising nod to regional gastronomy. A Wine Tour in Cappadocia should be about more than just wine—it should be about the whole sense of place. If S’Narin can truly connect their wines with Cappadocia’s culinary traditions, they might offer something quite special. And Cappadocia has a lot of culinary and viticultural options on offer.
Grapes at S’Narin Vineyard: A Focus on Native Varieties
Here’s what really caught my attention: S’Narin is working with native Turkish grapes. Their current lineup includes:
• White Wine – Emir (grown in Ürgüp/Sofular)
• Blush – Öküzgözü
• Red Wine – Kalecik Karası (from Ortahisar)
• Red Blend – Öküzgözü & Boğazkere (from Avanos)

This is exactly the kind of portfolio I hope to see from new Turkish producers—locally grown, heritage grapes, no imported international varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon or Syrah (at least not yet). But that leads me to wonder: What’s the vineyard age? What’s the yield per hectare? How are they fermenting—steel, oak, amphora?
Emir can be temperamental—when not harvested properly, it can lack acidity. Kalecik Karası can be gorgeous, but easily over-oaked. Öküzgözü and Boğazkere blends require patience. What’s S’Narin’s stylistic approach? Are they aiming for easy-drinking or cellar-worthy?
S’Narin Wine Store: Exclusive Distribution
One thing is clear—S’Narin wines are currently only available from the winery itself or via direct order. That’s a classic boutique move: control quality, preserve exclusivity. But this likely means limited accessibility for travelers outside of Cappadocia.
A bonus: The winery store also offers handmade products and displays oil paintings by the owner, Mrs. Senar. This artistic integration is unique
A Cautious Enthusiasm: Why S’Narin Might Be Worth Watching
Let me be clear—I haven’t visited. I haven’t tasted the wines. But S’Narin Vineyard has caught my attention. It feels sincere. It feels local. It feels like a passionate endeavor.
Still, there are questions I look forward to answering:
• How do the wines taste? Are they clean, expressive, balanced?
• What’s the price point? Are they aiming for value or prestige?
• What’s the winery’s sustainability outlook?
• What’s their story—why did they start in 2022, and where are they headed?

If you’ve been to S’Narin Winery or tasted their wines during a wine tour in Cappadocia, I’d love to hear your impressions. Does the location live up to its promise? Are the wines memorable?
Final Thoughts: Watching S’Narin Winery with Curiosity
As Turkey’s boutique wine movement continues to grow, S’Narin Winery in Cappadocia may become a noteworthy player. Their focus on native grapes, immersive tasting experiences, and riverside setting all point to a thoughtful, experience-driven model. But for now, I remain cautiously optimistic.
So much depends on the quality in the glass—and I look forward to tasting soon. For now, I’ll be watching S’Narin Vineyard with genuine curiosity and hope.
Stay Tuned
As I continue exploring and documenting Turkey’s dynamic wine scene, I’ll update this post after I’ve had a chance to visit S’Narin in person or taste their wines. Until then, if you’re heading to Cappadocia and want to support local producers, S’Narin Winery may be worth adding to your list.
